Volgend jaar op 1 januari wordt de Chinese yuan een officiële munteenheid in Zimbabwe na besprekingen tussen de twee regeringen tijdens een staatsbezoek van de Chinese president.
Dit zal de Chinese munteenheid in Zimbabwe gelijk maken aan de Amerikaanse dollar, de Zuid-Afrikaanse rand en de Botswaanse pula, waarbij de euro geen rol speelt in deze vergelijking, misschien een scherpe herinnering aan de negativiteit die de Europese Unie tegenover Zimbabwe heeft getoond.
China is de grootste handelspartner van Zimbabwe geworden en de investeringen nemen toe, na het bezoek van president Xi JinPing aan het land enige tijd geleden.
